Pacaya Volcano offers one of Guatemala’s most striking natural experiences — an active volcanic landscape shaped by fire, ash, and time. The experience begins with a scenic drive through rural highlands before arriving at the volcanic park. Accompanied by a local guide, guests explore solidified lava fields, volcanic trails, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking surrounding valleys and distant volcanoes. The ascent typically takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, followed by a similar duration for the descent, with the route and pace thoughtfully adapted to each guest’s interests and comfort level.
For those seeking additional comfort, the ascent may also be completed on horseback, available at an additional cost. During the experience, guests may enjoy a simple yet memorable culinary moment, such as toasting marshmallows using the natural heat of the volcano, and—when conditions allow—may also opt for an artisan-style pizza experience prepared using natural volcanic heat, offered as an optional add-on at the guest’s preference.
